Methodology
AST’s Enterprise Domain Model (EDM) is a thorough approach to driving software implementation projects to on-time delivery. It has evolved from a history of successful implementation experiences and encompasses the full implementation life cycle. EDM is a result of several years of successful consulting engagements, user and consultant feedback and progressive compilation of tools and templates.
Implementation (Enterprise Domain Model)
Clearly Defined Phases
Your users’ time is very valuable, often limited, and should be utilized with great care and planning. To achieve user involvement without sacrificing time, EDM divides applications and modules into functional “domains” and assigns one or more key users to each domain. This approach utilizes your users’ time optimally, involving only key users in decision making.
Specific Deliverables
Our Conference Room Pilot (CRP) places emphasis on prototyping. The CRP is unique in that it delivers a fully functional prototype for your project and defines the extent and scope of customizations. The CRP’s high value to project planning is in its thorough documentation of gaps in functionality, view of all available options for resolution, and cost estimates for implementing resolutions.
Measurable Performance Parameters
As indicated in our diagram (at right), EDM is divided into specific implementation phases and major deliverable milestones. These can be customized to your particular project needs or to complement an existing methodology in use. EDM verifies the full system solution against your business processes, measuring and predicting reliability and performance.
Constant flow of critical information among domain experts is ensured through consistent documentation and periodic core team meetings. As a standard practice of EDM, we strongly recommend the use of groupware to track your project's issues, facilitate communication among team members, and the use of version control software to track project deliverables.

EDM: Implementation Strategy
The goal of the Implementation Strategy is to plan the business and technical execution of the project. During this phase, your Project Manager and AST's will work together to build an achievable work plan. The plan takes into account your business objectives and constraints such as time, resources and budget. The joint team (your team members and ours) outlines the project organization, staffing requirements, roles and responsibilities, along with any assumptions made.
Deliverables
- Scope Definition
- Project Plan

- EDM phases and deliverables can be customized to a particular project need or to complement an existing methodology in use at the client company.
- Solution design considers organizational changes, process improvement and re-engineering initiatives.
- EDM integrates standard and custom modules into a single working business solution.
- EDM verifies the full system solution against company processes, measuring and predicting reliability and performance
Documentation and formal acceptance of deliverables and documents is a crucial aspect of EDM methodology.
- EDM strongly recommends the use of groupware and version control software to track project issues and deliverables, and to facilitate project communication.
